Zelpher Ferguson
I qualified as a teacher in 1993 and have over 30 years of professional experience across a variety of fields. This includes state education, the independent sector, further education and business. Much of my career has been in early years and primary settings and teaching peripatetic drama classes in primary and secondary schools. I have also lectured in Early Childhood Education in the south of the country in two further education establishments.
In April 2022 I became the Founder of Aluna Behaviour Consultancy as a Behaviour Strategist. My work involves providing support for children, young people and adults with a range of behaviours; delivering specialist training, workshops and coaching opportunities for professionals, pupils and parents. I also have a number of adult clients and work extensively in social care with foster carers and children’s residential home staff.
I am committed to trauma-informed and relational practice in my work with young people and adults. Having managed and worked in early years settings for a number of years I'm a passionate advocate for creating nurturing, inclusive environments where every child feels safe, valued and empowered to thrive. My work with early years teams in Gloucestershire has demonstrated that reflective practitioners who are attuned to children's needs can make transformative outcomes. The wellbeing of learners and educators alike are supported through my role as an accredited Mental Health First Aider and trainer of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) programmes.
A significant area of my work is facilitating Training for Anti-Racist Practice in Education [TARPIE™]. Of the three levels of delivery; the Basic Zone helps those who want or need to have a greater awareness of the issues relating to racism in education, the Learning Zone for participating allies, who promote non-racist practice and are moving towards becoming anti-racist settings, the Growth Zone includes senior staff and stakeholders who can use the content to influence anti-racist conduct on a wide scale within their organisation.
Education has awarded me great privileges; it is an honour to give back by continuing to use my years of experience positively and productively for the benefit of children and young people, families, adults and professionals in my community and beyond.
